Art Director

The Hamilton Collection is in search of an experienced direct response Art Director to design and develop engaging and effective print and digital advertising.

The Art Director will play a critical role in leading our creative development—part creative dynamo, part fearless leader—the ideal candidate will help drive Hamilton’s visual identity with a keen focus on effectively engaging the customer.  Hamilton’s collectible products touch the hearts of customers by speaking to a wide range of interests and represent some of the most popular brands in the world, and the ideal Art Director will beautifully convey what we’re all about—enjoyment, excitement, legacy and fun.

The Art Director will drive the vision and execution of our direct response advertising.  You will work with an experienced team of writers and designers to create compelling direct response packages and engaging media advertising for print and digital efforts.  You will share your experience and wisdom to make our visual creative the very best it can be, but you’ll always be challenging the team to ask, “What’s next?”  You will also partner with our dedicated marketing team, ensuring a strong partnership between marketing and creative to understand and translate the metrics behind the creative.

Responsibilities:

  • Concept, design and develop effective direct response creative, utilizing a wide range of cost-effective formats.
  • Identify marketing challenges and recommend concepts and designs that engage the target audience and meet measurable business goals and requirements.
  • Develop additional creative assets that ensure consistent presentation of the product, company and our licensed brands in all marketing activities including print and digital advertising—email formats, Facebook advertising formats, space ads, etc.
  • Manage our internal design team as well as freelance designers—you will serve as a leader and a creative mentor to the team.
  • Work closely with our internal team of writers and freelance writers to collaboratively concept and execute direct response packages that engage the customer and effectively sell our collectibles.
  • Continually perfect the process for managing workflow in the department.
  • Work with management to communicate creative results across the organization.
  • Serve as a liaison to our print production team to continually explore print capabilities and new trends and technology; this will include requesting quotes for new print components and formats.
  • Work with internal clients and stakeholders to understand the scope of requests and business goals to develop high-quality creative that meets objectives and requirements; Understand basic questions to be asked at the beginning of any request with depth of questions increasing as complexity increases

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design or related field.
  • Proven understanding of direct response principles is a MUST.
  • 7+ years of professional experience working as a visual designer in an in-house creative department, design firm or advertising agency.
  • Digital and integrated campaign design experience, specifically with email, Facebook ad formats, and video.
  • Experience with consumer products and/or consumer packaged goods.
  • A self-starter who identifies opportunities and potential problems – addressing them effectively and efficiently
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and technical concepts
  • Knowledge of marketing fundamentals and ability to implement them to create dynamic deliverables
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel is highly desired
  • Proficient in a variety of methods to convey ideas and concepts (e.g. storytelling, storyboards, prototypes, etc.)
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about excellence and attention to detail.
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically to meet with other corporate departments, meet with vendors and attend industry conferences.
  • Basic understanding of HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS and design needs that support SEO and SEM
  • Knowledge of web based technologies and mobile operating systems and platforms and their impact on the feasibility of design solutions, for example Ajax, Flash, HTML 5, CSS, scripting, iOS, Android, and various other technologies are a plus
  • Knowledge of mobile, tablet and desktop platforms is a plus
