Jewelry Product Development Manager

The Bradford Group is looking for an experienced Product Development Manager to join their Jewelry Team! Selected candidate will be responsible for assisting product development managers in concepting, developing product series, and preparing product for presentation to the company. You will also be responsible for new concepts and managing back-end products; managing schedules for artists, overseeing contact with artist, and various other administrative project management tasks. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management Tasks - Manage timelines and communications across all departments to ensure schedules for product introductions and manufacturing are met. Communicate clearly and effectively with overseas, non-native English speaking vendors. Update File Maker Pro database in relation to status on products, researches, correctly, consistently, and in a timely fashion to keep the workflow smooth across the various departments - Advertising, Production, and Marketing. 

Contacts with Artists and Licensors - Expand design pool (designers, sketch artists, sculptors, painters, etc.) by proactively seeking out new talent to result in quality and reliable resources for the product development team

Concepting and Developing Products -

  • Researches past Bradford product to analyze degree of success in market.
  • Manage a group of products with emphasis on the design quality 
  • Develops and presents concepts and ideas for new products to managers; this includes the concept, research, mockup/sketches, and data on trends, competitive and related industries, prior test/rollout results, preliminary costs/margin estimates. 
  • Work in tandem with Marketing and Advertising to ensure product is positioned appropriately for the marketplace
  • Assists with other presentations to senior-level management.
  • Follow up on outstanding issues in a timely fashion

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, Certification, and Experience 

  • MA, MFA, BA or BFA degree in Art, Art History, Fine/Studio Arts, Illustration, Product Design, Sculpture, Graphic Design or an art-related field.
  • 1 - 7 years' experience in product development/design or jewelry designing, buying, or merchandising experience in a fast-paced environment 
  • 1 - 7 years' experience designing mass-manufactured jewelry
  • Experience networking with freelance artists and sculptors and demonstrated skill in contract negotiations 
  • Art directing/critiquing experience 
  • Costume jewelry spec and vendor communication experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Strong artistic/creative skills 
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills - both verbal and written. 
  • Strong work ethic and passion for and interest in jewelry and jewelry trends; experience also desirable 
  • Must be organized and must be very detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of MAC/PC including Excel, Word, Photoshop required; 
  • Ability to work and troubleshoot in an extremely fast paced environment.
  • Ability to manage projects from conception to product stage; ability to manage costs and budgets 

Preferred Qualifications

Education, Licensing, Certification, and Experience 

  • Strong internship experience or a minimum of two years' work experience is preferred. 
  • Experience in a clerical and/or art and craft environment is a major plus. 
  • Artistic skills 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as casting, assembly, plating, and finishing very desirable
  • Familiarity with Illustrator and/or databases helpful
