Access Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant/Special Project is primarily responsible for supporting both Accounting Division initiatives and routine responsibilities with a focus on process improvements by using database, SQL, Cognos, and VBA. Activities include analyzing existing processes/problems, and then identifying, building and documenting solutions that will improve operational efficiency and/or enable delivery of enhanced financial and management reporting.  The role spans across all phases of a project/assignment, including creation, planning and execution of project work plans, under the direction of the management of the Accounting Group.  The position will develop training communications and support appropriate training to users. The position will also support routine Accounting monthly/annual activities.    Reports to Special Projects Supervisor/Team Manager who reports to Financial Reporting management.​

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Financial Reporting management in evaluating the Accounting division's organization, policies and procedures to recommend opportunities to improve operational efficiency and productivity and add value to the Finance function. At a project level, assist in gathering business requirements and defining the project scope, goals and deliverables that will support the business needs of the division and enterprise.  Develop cost/benefit analyses in tandem with Financial Reporting management to support the project's business investment.  Assist in gathering metrics that clearly demonstrate the “before” and “after” improvements in process, processing time, support costs, support time, and other qualitative metrics that reinforce the business investment.
  • As directed by division and Financial Reporting management, design, program and implement improved processes and reporting to deliver enhanced information and data via streamlined work effort.  Develop and deliver communications, including training, of all changes to appropriate user communities along with documentation of the new policies/procedures.
  • Support the Accounting Division on a regular basis.  Potential support includes monthly close support, year-end close and specific areas such as collections, freight out, or inventory.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, Certification, and Experience

  • BS in Accounting or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of related experience.  Hands-on experience with a variety of accounting concepts, practices and procedures.​

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel and Access - advanced database building.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Spreadsheet proficiency should include ability to build models and perform advanced analysis functions.
  • Evaluation, originality, and ingenuity is required.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to make recommendations to management on best most cost-effective options.

  • Financial or Business Analyst experience a plus​
